I discovered something new yesterday and I can't wait to share it with you! Bear with me; I’m blogging so that I don’t forget it π
This is an advanced post; it requires a basic knowledge of your birth chart. If you're new to astrology or if you haven't seen your chart, you will find an introduction HERE.
The theory is that we all have behaviors that we might have learned from our families (or in past lives) and that have become exaggerated; what once was a personal strength is overdone and it becomes a stumbling block in our lives. To get past this pattern, you are encouraged to do the opposite of what comes naturally to you.
The Astrology of your
Soul and Higher Self
What we need to outgrow to find happiness and satisfaction is represented by the South Node of the Moon; we become well rounded by consciously leaving behind the unhealthy traits of our South Node and leaning into the characteristics of our North Node. The two Signs are opposites on the Zodiac Wheel.
For example, Virgo and Pisces are opposites. Pisces North Node is encouraged to go with the flow, to lean into their intuition, to develop compassion and to trust that the Universe will take care of their next steps. Virgo North Node is called to be pragmatic, to take care of herself and to double check plans before proceeding - providing a framework for the intuition and compassion that are already there. They are two sides of the same coin.
While we might feel very comfortable with our South Node, the North Node represents our biggest discomfort (but also the greatest potential for joy). Jan's book is fantastic. It goes through each sign in detail, along with tips on how to ease yourself into your North Node. Nevertheless, it is hard and I would highly recommend taking your North Node to a counseling psychologist and asking them to help you work through it π
You can print out your natal chart at astro.com and join me on Instagram for tips on how to read your chart. We’re looking at the different aspects of the psyche and our spiritual DNA through the astrology chart. The birth chart tells us about the human psyche; it is an invaluable tool for personal development. The more you work through the ins and outs of your chart, the easier it is for you to connect with your Higher Self and all of the wisdom, compassion and power that your soul has to offer!
ReRouting Your Chart π
Yesterday I was fiddling around on astro.com, looking through the Extended Chart Selection and I saw something called the Draconic Zodiac as an option for chart drawings. Weird name, I know!
It's an astrology chart that is based on the Dragon's Head & Tail (another name for the Moon's Nodes). This is the big discovery: the Draconic Chart is said to map out your Higher or Spiritual Self’s astrology chart, taking the point of the North Node in your natal chart as 'zero degrees Aries' and going from there.
The planets stay in the same House in the Natal Wheel, but the Zodiac moves in the Draconic chart. My natal Sun is in Aquarius and my Natal Moon is in Capricorn; my Draconic Sun is in Virgo with the D-Moon in LEO. I have always felt like I needed a LEO Moon to thrive and it turns out that on that higher self level, I have a Leo Moon!
That Leo energy feels like it is just out of reach and funny enough, the past few years I’ve been meditating to connect with my Higher Self and with the Zodiac sign of Leo. The more I meditate with Leo energy, for example by connecting with the Sun or Moon when they transit Leo, the more familiar and accessible that energy feels.
The Moon circles through the Zodiac every month; we can piggyback on its transits to connect with the Zodiac sign that we need to integrate. More on that in the future…
Integrating What Is Hidden
The Moon represents our emotions, what gives us security and to an extent, the unconscious. When we work with astrology we bring all of that to the surface in a way that empowers us. The Draconic Chart takes the Moon's North Node as a starting point for personal growth.
Jan Spiller's books are awesome and I still come back to them. Astrology for the Soul looks at the North Node, and then her later book on Spiritual Astrology points to your life purpose - specifically the lessons that you can share with the world, consciously or unconsciously. The latter can be found in our prenatal eclipses; my North Node & one of my eclipses are in Leo.
That Higher Self Moon in Leo comes in handy - it's funny that this light switched on just now when my Progressed Moon has found its way into LEO! The progressed chart looks at how we evolve over time - our changing needs & attitudes.
I asked asked for tips on how to read the Draconic Chart and had two suggestions: the first was to look at how your Natal and Draconic charts overlap, especially looking at House placements in your Natal Chart (this had been my feeling too!) For example, Leo is in the 3rd House of my natal chart. My Draconic Moon will shine through that third house, impulsing all of the 3rd House themes. I also loved seeing my Draconic Mars & Jupiter in Aries - pushing through the 11th House of community and friendship. What it means, still not sure lol.
The second was a book recommendation: The Draconic Chart by Pamela Crane.
How does this apply this to personal growth? I am new to Draconic Astrology, but if your Higher (Spiritual) Self complements your Human Self, it makes sense to compare the two, similar to relationships. For example, if your D-Sun is in Scorpio, look for Scorpio in your Natal Chart and see where Scorpio shines (in what House). The idea is for your Higher Self to empower your Human Self. We can align with our Higher Self and bring it's light and power to our lives in many ways - chakra meditations might be easier.
Here is a comparison of my Draconic & Natal Charts - natal planets in blue on the inner wheel, Draconic planets in Red.
Hope this made some sense! If astrology is new to you, you'll find an introduction HERE. We have to learn to read our natal astrology chart (birth chart) before looking at the Draconic chart or it won't make sense. If you'd like to sneak a peak at your Draconic Chart, have a look at your Draconic Sun Sign. It just might be the Lighthouse that guides you!

Ps ... The Draconic Zodiac is available at astro.com under Extended Chart Selection, where we choose between Tropical, Sidereal and Draconic. Most Western Astrologers are Tropical, which is based on the Seasons.
