A Crystal Grid to Remove Turbulence

Hi Chickpeas, This week I have a few thoughts to share with you -  firstly, I am enrolled in a fun crystal healing class at Hibiscus Moon and my homework this week was to create a crystal grid - essentially a crystal layout which can be charged with intentions. It amplifies your magick  💝

The concept of programming crystal grids to send healing is right up my alley. In Reiki classes we learn to program crystals for energy balancing - there are lots of ways to work with them. One of my favorites, in the context of a reiki session, is to incorporate them when the client’s energy is so stuck that I’d have to spend a lot more time on each hand position  (Byosen Levels 4-5*). We also learned how to program grids for distant healing in the Reiki Master classes.

One of my Reiki teachers set up a grid - actually four - and placed them at the North Pole, South Pole, Jerusalem and Hawaii to cover the four corners of the Earth (that is William Rand). Reiki practitioners all over the world have a picture of it and we use that image to send Reiki to the World Peace Grid, and through it, to the world.

Below you will find a grid that I set up to transmute household stress during quarantine. It has one of my favorite stones, Black Tourmaline - great for stress relief and transmuting negative energy, and Blue Apatite to dispel confusion. It may or may not be a coincidence, but the stress felt with my quarantine buddies went down substantially after setting up the grid this weekend.

This morning I switched the intention for this grid to send peace and grounding to the whole world. Feel free to take a picture of the grid and visualize it radiating light to you.

An Astrology-Inspired Meditation

Beyond that I would also like to share an energy healing meditation with you. A lot of what we are experiencing now can be explained by looking at the planets, especially Pluto and Jupiter in Capricorn - both of which can create quite a bit of upheaval. When Capricorn shakes we tend to feel insecure or scared and in my case, meditating with Black Tourmaline has done a lot to calm my nerves. Please try the  meditation below to transmute the feelings of stress and uncertainty.

Capricorn is an Earth sign, concerned with financial issues and the stability we enjoy in the material world. It also relates to authority and governments, which are all being shaken up at the moment. Pluto pushes us towards transformation and it would be much easier for all of us if necessary changes happen with love and proactivity, and not from a place of reactivity or fear. Pluto transits through Capricorn every 250 years. It has been in Capricorn since 2008 and will leave in 2024. In 2020 the effect was multiplied by Jupiter's 12-13 month transit through this sign, and Saturn having just exited it (a lot of weight in one sign). As well as pushing us to find new footing, upheavals in Capricorn bring up a shadow of fear and uncertainty.

Meditating with Black Tourmaline crystals has helped me a lot - especially the past few years as I have a key planet in Capricorn and had been feeling anxious even before this. Those of you who are into Bach Flowers Remedies may want to try Mimulus Remedy as it is said to help calm fears related to Capricorn, acting on the emotional body. As always, energy healing and vibrational remedies are complementary to medical care, not alternative.

Reiki FOOTNOTE

* For those of you who are unfamiliar with Reiki, practitioners feel a range of sensations on their palms while giving Reiki. This is how we know that Reiki is flowing, and how we sense or perceive the energy field. At the lower end of the Byosen scale, we feel practically nothing or absolutely nothing; that is meant to be a signal NOT to keep your hands there and to move to a different part of the body/aura.

In the mid levels, the Reiki practitioner feels tingling, hot, cold, or pulsations and at level 5, it’s super uncomfortable and often painful. It doesn't happen often. The stronger the sensation, the more time you are supposed to stay at that location. I incorporate crystals at levels 4 & 5 to let the crystal give reiki, instead of keeping my hands there. Other times it's just a feeling that tells you where to go and what to do. If you don't know what to do, follow the hand positions.

When I was starting out, I perceived a lot more in the energy field (either clairvoyantly or through physical sensations). Over time, the clairvoyance has taken a back seat. I think it’s my own curiosity going down, and practicality taking the lead with sessions.

Does sharing have to be selfless or painful?

One of the things that I have had to let go of is the idea that if we help someone, it has to be 100% altruistic - in order for the action to be good. I don’t know if this is an idea that I adopted in childhood seeing others hold up selflessness as good - “give till it hurts” etc. The world would be a much better place if we knew that it is always in our benefit to help others. We always get something in return, directly or indirectly 💛 🫶🏻 Research shows that kindness makes for a much healthier society. I read a book last year called Shadow, Self & Spirit on transpersonal (or collective) psychology. There was a chapter on the psychology of evil and violence. People are less likely to harm others if they experience some form of compassion in their lives, or if they believe that someone cares about them - even if it’s a public figure, a politician, a celeb, or a deity like Quan Yin. Or better yet, family members, friends, and strangers. Random acts...

Is Manifesting for Real?

A while ago I wrote a post asking if spirit guides are real - pointing out that we have to challenge our beliefs, and also how we interpret what happens to us. Let's not get stuck in an idea or a worldview.  So today I'm going to take this approach to manifesting - is it for real? I don't think manifesting is for real, nor should it be the main focus in our lives. And honestly, I say this despite evidence to the contrary in my own life, i.e. things that I've manifested.   My issue with manifesting is that it's focused on ourselves, and what we can get in the material world. Personally, I've had good results applying conventional methods to get ahead - with help from my angels and guides. But still, it took drive and ambition to find a good corporate job in London, years ago. That and focusing on my personal competencies, and on the soft skills that were needed. Putting myself out there, networking, knocking on doors. Real world activities. And luck, that is a...

Looking into a Reiki Meta-Analysis (Clinical Study)

A few days ago, I came across a Reiki meta-analysis that was published last year. A meta analysis is a very large study that compiles other studies, in this case randomized controlled trials, and aggregates all of their data. As I have mentioned before, one of the challenging things about holistic studies, and clinical studies in general, is making sure that they accurately measure what they intend to measure. Note: I may come back to this in the future to keep refining information and thoughts, and to simplify it.  In the meantime, my first impressions :  Effects of Reiki therapy on quality of life: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.   Syst Rev. 2025 Mar 27;14(1):72.    The participants in these studies were cancer patients, surgical patients and people with chronic issues (including high stress) who were not hospitalized. There weren't enough people in those study groups to generate reliable statistics for cancer vs surgery, but when all of them...
